With Maaran film, Karthick Naren’s inquiry to reclaim the touch that kept his sparkling debut Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru resumes. While the young filmmaker’s sophomore action Naragasooran is still remaining to catch the light of the day, the follow-up Mafia Chapter 1 has dazzling yet underwhelming. He exhibited indications of rediscovering his form with Project Agni, the mindbending short that has part of the collection Navarasa. And Maaran is his most weak effort yet, one in which even his filmmaking style doesn’t reach his service. And the report is even more of a letdown.
The narrative has centered on Mathimaaran, a corruption reporter. He demands speaking the truth to power, observing in the footsteps of his father Sathyamoorthy who failed his life after completing an exposé. He is fearless to a defect and has interested just in speaking reality. With help from his cop friend Arjun, he gets to light a fraud, applying fake EVMs, existing planned by former minister Pazhani Samuthirakani, attempting to make the most out of a red herring of a role, who lives trying to recycle his one-time praise. Though what Maaran appears to have forgotten about is the safety of his sister Shwetha.
